Introduction to the Gastrointestinal Research Team
Our gastrointestinal research team is engaged in cutting-edge research on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. We focus particularly on leveraging advancements in endoscopic technology to develop new diagnostic and therapeutic methods, as well as elucidating disease mechanisms to establish innovative treatment strategies.
Research Themes
1. Prevention of Colorectal Cancer and Gut Microbiota
We are conducting research bridging basic and clinical studies on chemoprevention and the relationship between gut microbiota in colorectal cancer prevention. Our goal is to establish future prevention strategies by elucidating how changes in gut microbiota influence colorectal cancer development. In our basic research, we utilize human-derived organoids for experimental studies.
2. Innovations in Endoscopic Resection Techniques
We are developing safer and more efficient endoscopic resection methods for colorectal adenomas and duodenal tumors. Our aim is to establish new techniques that provide minimally invasive yet highly effective treatments, facilitating their clinical application.
3. Expanding the Indications for Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) in Esophageal Cancer
As part of a specific clinical research initiative, we are conducting studies to expand the indications for photodynamic therapy (PDT) in esophageal cancer. Our goal is to establish this as a viable treatment option for patients who cannot undergo standard therapies.
4. Evaluation of the Efficacy and Safety of Pharyngeal ESD
We are investigating the efficacy and safety of endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) in the pharyngeal region, expanding the possibilities for minimally invasive treatment.
5. Research on Protecting the Health of Endoscopists
We are analyzing the mechanisms behind musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) associated with endoscopic procedures and developing preventive measures. Protecting the health of physicians contributes to the overall improvement of medical care quality.
6. Development of Next-Generation Endoscopic Technologies
Our team is working on developing new diagnostic methods and devices using advanced endoscopic technologies. By incorporating AI and high-resolution imaging, we aim to enhance diagnostic accuracy significantly.
7. Bile Acid Metabolism and Gastrointestinal Motility
We are exploring the impact of bile acid metabolism on gastrointestinal motility, identifying new therapeutic targets for chronic constipation and functional gastrointestinal disorders.
8. Improving the Quality of Constipation Diagnosis Using Portable Ultrasound
Our research focuses on utilizing portable ultrasound technology to enhance the quality of constipation diagnosis and treatment. We aim to establish a new diagnostic approach that is both accurate and minimally invasive for patients.
9. Development of Clinical Guidelines
We are involved in the development of clinical guidelines for drug-induced gastrointestinal disorders and chronic constipation, incorporating the latest evidence-based medical findings to improve the quality of clinical practice.
